Last updated: November 2026 · Part 5 of my Jeju series
You’ve climbed Hallasan, conquered an oreum, eaten your body weight in black pork. Now it’s time for the other side of Jeju: turquoise water, white sand, ocean-view cafés, flower fields, and a plan for when the famous Jeju weather turns on you.
This last part of the series covers the best beaches, the café and flower scene, waterfalls, and what to do on a rainy day. New here? Start with Part 1: Jeju travel guide.

⚡ TL;DR: Best beaches: Hyeopjae and Geumneung (west), Hamdeok and Woljeong-ri (east), Jungmun (south). Official beach season in 2026 ran June 24 – September 6, about 10am–7pm. Ocean-view cafés line the Aewol and Woljeong-ri coasts. Flower calendar: canola and cherry blossoms in spring, hydrangeas in June, silver grass in autumn, camellias in winter. Rainy day? Manjanggul lava tube (reopened May 2026), museums and forests.
The best beaches in Jeju
| Beach | Area | Why go |
|---|---|---|
| Hyeopjae | West | White sand, shallow emerald water, Biyangdo island on the horizon. The postcard one |
| Geumneung | West | Right next to Hyeopjae, a bit quieter, same colors |
| Hamdeok | Northeast | Close to Jeju City, shallow and calm, a small oreum to climb next door |
| Woljeong-ri | East | Café and surf vibe, windmills offshore, great for sunset drinks |
| Iho Taewoo | Jeju City | Closest to the airport, famous horse-shaped lighthouses |
| Jungmun Saekdal | South | Bigger waves, Korea’s surf spot, resort area |
| Udo beaches | Udo island | Pale sand and clear water; a full day trip by ferry |

Beach season 2026
- Jeju’s 12 official beaches opened June 24 to September 6, 2026 (the longest season yet), roughly 10am–7pm, with lifeguards.
- In peak summer (mid-July to mid-August), some beaches stay open later; Hyeopjae and Iho Taewoo even run night swimming with lighting.
- Hamdeok runs as a pet-friendly beach in season.
- Parasol rental is about ₩20,000 and a flat mat about ₩30,000 for the day.
- Outside the official season, the beaches are still gorgeous for walks, just not supervised for swimming.
🤫 Friend tip: The water color is best at low tide on a sunny day around midday. Cloudy morning? Have coffee first and come back later.
🙅 Skip: swimming outside the flags or at random rocky coves.
👉 Do this instead: Jeju currents can be strong. Swim at official beaches during season, and watch for jellyfish warnings in late summer.
Waterfalls and coastal wonders (south side)
Seogwipo is waterfall country. All three are easy walks from the parking lot.
| Spot | What it is |
|---|---|
| Jeongbang | One of the few waterfalls in Asia that falls straight into the sea |
| Cheonjiyeon | A waterfall in a lush gorge, lit up and open in the evening |
| Cheonjeyeon | A three-tiered waterfall with an arched bridge and forest trails |
| Jusangjeolli | Hexagonal lava columns on the coast, like giant stacked pencils |

Ocean-view cafés
Jeju has turned café-hopping into a sport. The best ones are converted stone houses, glass boxes on cliffs or rooftops facing the sea.
- Aewol coast (west): the original café road, perfect for sunset.
- Woljeong-ri (east): beachfront cafés, laid-back surf-town vibe.
- Seongsan area: cafés with views of Seongsan Ilchulbong.
- Inland: barn cafés, tangerine-orchard cafés and forest hideaways.
- Look for Jeju-only flavors: tangerine lattes and ades, green tea, and peanut everything near Udo.

🔥 Hot take: In Jeju the café is the attraction. Plan one great café per day like you’d plan a museum, then build your route around it.
Jeju flower calendar
| Season | Flowers | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| Mar–Apr | Canola (yellow) and cherry blossoms | Roadsides, Seongsan area, Noksan-ro road |
| June | Hydrangeas | Temples, gardens and village roads, especially in the east |
| Oct–Nov | Silver grass (eoksae), pink muhly | Oreum like Saebyeol, flower farms |
| Dec–Feb | Camellias | Camellia gardens and forests in the south |

Udo: the island off the island
A 15-minute ferry from Seongsan port takes you to Udo (“cow island”): pale beaches, cliffs, tiny villages and the famous peanut ice cream. Rent an e-bike or take the island bus, and walk part of Olle Course 1-1. Go early to beat the crowds and check the ferry schedule, since wind can cancel sailings.

Rainy day? Here’s the plan
Jeju weather loves drama. When it rains (or the wind goes crazy), switch to these:
| Idea | Why it works |
|---|---|
| Manjanggul lava tube | A UNESCO lava tube, one of the longest in the world. Reopened in May 2026 after safety work. It’s about 11–15°C inside all year |
| Haenyeo Museum | The story of Jeju’s women divers, on the east coast |
| Jeju Stone Park | Mostly outdoors but atmospheric in mist: Jeju’s volcanic origin story and stone culture |
| Forests (gotjawal, Bijarim) | Rain makes the moss and ferns glow. Bring a rain jacket |
| Museums and art spaces | Jeju has many, from immersive digital art to contemporary galleries |
| Aquarium | A big one near Seongsan, good for families |
| Café + market day | Dongmun Market, then a long café session. Honestly, not a bad plan |

🤫 Friend tip: Rain on one side of Jeju doesn’t mean rain everywhere. Check the weather for Jeju City and Seogwipo separately, then drive to the sunny side.
Practical tips
- Sun and wind: bring sunscreen and a windbreaker, even in summer.
- Typhoon season is roughly August–September. Keep plans flexible and watch the forecast.
- Leave no trace: don’t take sand, shells or volcanic rocks home. Taking rocks off the island is illegal.
- Parking at famous cafés and beaches fills up on weekends. Go early or on weekdays.
